Sports Funding

At Lightwater Village School we believe that PE & Sport play an important role in our curriculum, promoting positive attitudes towards exercise and a healthy lifestyle and having the potential to change young people’s lives for the better.

A balanced Physical Education programme is planned across the school to ensure continuity and progression in skills and knowledge. All teachers have high expectations for learning in Physical Education and plan creative and engaging lessons where children are encouraged to work successfully, both individually and in groups. Opportunities are given to celebrate success through class performances to the rest of the school and to parents during assemblies and school productions.

We have welcomed the Government’s announcement in June 2013 to provide additional funding for 2 years to improve provision of Physical Education (PE) and Sport in primary schools. We are committed to using this funding to develop high quality PE lessons, alongside providing greater opportunities for sporting competitions and clubs for all our young people.

Sport Premium Grant

Funding for schools will be calculated by the number of primary aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11) as at the annual census in January 2013. All schools with 17 or more primary aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £8,000 plus a premium of £5 per pupil. Smaller schools will receive £500 per pupil. It should be noted that the funding is split over financial years.

What does the Sport Premium mean for Lightwater Village School?

‘Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this’ (DfE June 2013).

At Lightwater Village School we have identified three key areas on which to spend the Sport Premium Grant:

  • Physical Education for all – raising the standards for all children in Physical Education.
  • Healthy Active Lifestyles – ensuring our children have access to regular exercise
  • Competitive School Sport – increasing pupil participation in extra-curricular sport.
