Our Community

Over the years we have forged strong community links enabling us to offer a varied approach to learning. Getting children involved in the local area nurtures a sense of community responsibility which we value. Throughout the year we:

  • Visit All Saints' Church in Lightwater and Reverend Mark Wallace comes in to hold a school assembly once a half-term.
  • Sing Christmas carols to the residents at Moorlands Nursing Home.
  • Join together to sing Christmas songs at the Fayre in the Square in Lightwater.
  • Perform maypole dancing at our school Summer Fete and other local events.
  • Take part in the Surrey Heath Learning Partnership Multiskills event. This year it was held at our school.
  • Perform songs and poems at the Surrey Heath Learning Partnership Music Festival which is held annually at Collingwood College.
  • Hold after-school clubs with local companies, such as SCL and Computer Xplorers.
  • Support local charities such as The Poppy Appeal and Christopher’s Smile.
  • Donate food items at Harvest time.
  • Join children from Hammond Junior School to celebrate school events and take part in activities to raise money.
  • Attend network meetings for staff from local Surrey Heath schools to discuss upcoming events and share good practice.

Sure Start Children's Centre

Our school has close links with the local Sure Start Children’s Centre, which is situated in Bagshot. This Centre offers support to all families with children under the age of five that live in Bagshot, Lightwater or Windlesham. They run ‘Play and Learn’ sessions where parents can enjoy being involved with their child’s learning and they offer a variety of support and courses for families.

“All children’s centres have a clear core purpose, which focuses on improving outcomes for young children and their families, in order to reduce inequalities in child development and school readiness. This is supported by improved parenting aspirations, self esteem, parenting skills, child and family health; and life chances.”
